Sewing with Silk CD!
Drum roll please....Announcing the arrival of "Sewing With Silk", an educational CD for silk fans everywhere!
Late last spring I had the immense good fortune to be able to work with David Page Coffin, the former editor of Threads magazine and the author of Shirtmaking on a CD project. The idea: to create a CD with both written information and close up video demonstrations relating to the basics for sewing with silk fabrics. Many who sew are entranced by the beauty of silk fabrics, but also equally terrified by their price tag and reputation of being potentially difficult to work with. One of my goals as an educator is to demystify fashion sewing - it really does not need to be 'scary'. All it takes is a willingness to learn and to pay some attention to detail. This CD is my first project to try to make this process easy to learn at home as well as in the classroom. It's like having a detailed lesson available anytime you need to. And since you only see my hands working (all the filming is done close up to what is happening with the fabric and tools, not "me"), there is less distraction from what you really want to learn.
And now, here it is! I am very excited - David has done an amazing job of putting together something that is not only very educational, but also beautiful. I hope to get some good feedback (hopefully positive!) on the CD. I have the other Silk Experience CD's - on silkscreening and other topics - and I have been pleased with them.
David is working on putting together a YouTube video so that people will be able to preview the CD online. I'll be sure to post when that is available.
