Silk and Sunshine

Well, the sun is shining and that's a welcome thing after a very long winter that hasn't quite left us yet. And here I was hoping global warming would let me grow my brugmansia outside.

Scheduled some new classes at Silverdale today for Quality Sewing. We're going to have a silk day! Starting in the morning with an Introduction to Silk Dyeing, having some fun with thread resist in the afternoon's Painted Pillow class and then picking up the evening folks with another intro class. Dyeing silk is such fun - and using Colorhue dyes makes it super fast and easy.

Also scheduled a three-session class making a Needlefelted Jacket. Not only will this stylish jacket be embellished with needlefelting - we're going to construct it with needle felting! A great way to do some exploration with that needlefelting machine.

But for now, the plants in pots are begging to go into the ground and I must humor them so they will grow up strong and happy.

Testing, one-two-three

It's Alive! ...sort of

It's working but still some kinks to work out. Ah, but isn't that what challenges are for? To make life more interesting?

Tomorrow I'll be visiting the Kitsap County Clothing and Textile Advisors. The Clothing and Textile Advisors are a community volunteer group that is connected with Washington State University Extension. Kind of like Master Gardeners, only these are master sewers... in a sense.

They've asked me to come and speak about competitive (garment) sewing for adults. It's not just for kids! Should be a lot of fun and hopefully offer some ideas and inspiration for taking their sewing to the next level - or at least receiving some helpful feedback on their projects.

They're a great bunch - I used to attend their meetings when they first started, as I lived somewhat nearby. Looking forward to seeing them again and will use the opportunity to visit the Silverdale branch of Quality Sewing and Vacuum to discuss upcoming classes I'd like to offer.

And so it begins...

Before we can explore adventures in sewing we must first explore adventures in setting up the blog!

I'm really looking forward to bringing aspiring or experienced sewing enthusiasts "into my studio" to explore the various projects that I'm always working on. Hopefully it will be a fun and learning experience for all of us!

But first, to iron out the technological kinks...
